One of the most popular springtime events in the town of Clairemont is the annual Clairemont Town Council Garden Tour. Now in its 20th year, the CTC’s Garden Tour showcases beautiful private gardens throughout the Clairemont Community made up of the unique neighborhoods of Clairemont Mesa East, Clairemont Mesa West, North Clairemont, Bay Ho and Bay Park. This year’s Tour will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 10am until 4pm.
The self-guided tour includes 12 gardens this year, no two the same. You’ll see gardens that are ornamental, succulent, edible, drought tolerant/waterwise, gardens to attract bees and butterflies, and more! Each location will also feature a special guest offering advice that every gardener needs. Talk to experts in solar energy, hydroponics, rain harvesting, water conservation and lawn rebates, beekeeping, rare fruits and fruit tree care, master gardeners and more.
Food from longtime Clairemont favorite, Sandwich Emporium, and Clairemont rising star, Mike's BBQ, will have food available along the tour route.
First time attendees are often surprised at the incredible gardens they see on the tour. You’ll hear comments such as “Wow! Who knew there was a gem like this tucked away here!” or “I had no idea a backyard could look like this.” With the recent emphasis on water reduction, many people are looking for ideas on making a drought tolerant garden look great. Growing your own veggies is also a growing (or returning) trend. You’ll definitely get some ideas for both!
There are many garden tours in San Diego, and most of those gardens were professionally landscaped. The Clairemont garden tour is unique in that most of the gardens have been designed and maintained by the homeowners themselves. You’ll see that a little research and effort can result in a fantastic yard without having to pay a lot of money to landscapers. You’ll be impressed at how the residents of Clairemont have such wonderful vision and execution.
Buy your tickets online here, and pick up your wristband and program on Friday, May 6 or Saturday, May 7 at the locations listed in the "Tickets" section.
See you there!
What does the CTC do with the money raised through ticket sales? It all goes right back into the community of Clairemont via Town Council grants throughout the year. Schools, Eagle Scouts and music teachers are just some of the folks whose ideas for a better Clairemont were funded in part by Garden Tour sponsorship and ticket sales.
